Building a Community that Works for Kids

As the first eight years of life are the most critical for human development, we have come to believe that what matters most are the types of environments that we create for children. It is our responsibility as a total community to create positive places for kids to live, play and learn. In other words, the welfare of children depends entirely on adult behavior. Creating this environment can be a significant investment, but the returns are substantial and powerful, thanks to research developed by Nobel laureate economist James Heckman.

With these principles in mind, we are currently accepting proposals for the Spring 2017 Early Childhood Grants, with applications due on March 1st. We are looking for effective programs in the Worcester area that will:

  • Increase the quality and quantity of early education for low-income children.
  • Provide a foundation for lifelong development rooted in behavioral and physical health.
  • Support parents and families in their roles as teachers, caregivers, and supporters of their children’s development.
  • Help eliminate summer learning loss among low-income children.

Grants will be awarded in amounts of $5,000-$25,000. See our Grant Guidelines for details. Applications are submitted entirely online and must be received by March 1, 2017. Please contact Chris O'Keeffe at cokeeffe@greaterworcester.org or 508-755-0980 with questions.
