GWCF's Services to Nonprofit Organizations

We're all about developing a strong network of collaborative relationships with our region's nonprofits as well as connecting them with potential donors and volunteers.

Nonprofit Support Center

We're here to help! Through our Nonprofit Support Center, we seek to stimulate the development of a capable, forward-thinking, and collaborative nonprofit sector in Worcester County. We offer resources year-round to help boards and staff members do their jobs well. We also offer workshops in the spring and fall that engage high-quality presenters and provide participants with the opportunity to learn from professionals and peers in the field. Learn more.

Moreover, we encourage productive partnerships that cross our region’s private and public sectors to identify and address current and emerging challenges. Are you a good fit for us? Meet our recent grantees.

Before You Apply

Know that grants are made only to 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations serving the greater Worcester region (cities and towns of Worcester County). We prefer to fund organizations that are based in the region; outside organizations must be able to demonstrate the significant role of local partners, advisors, and/or planning steps which garner local understanding and support. Non-incorporated organizations may apply through an established nonprofit that agrees to provide fiscal oversight (a fiscal agent).

All grantees must be able to demonstrate sound planning and fiscal stewardship, have a legitimate and effective governing board, and agree to the Foundation’s reporting requirements.

Public agencies, municipal departments, and houses of worship are not typically eligible to receive discretionary grants. Before applying, we would like to hear from you in advance of your proposal, especially if you have never applied before or if there is something new to discuss. This conversation will allow you to learn more about us and how we operate, and for us to learn about your organization.

Fund Spotlight:

The Brian M. and Maureen E. Chandley Fund

Donors like the Chandleys help make our grantmaking possible!

Newly retired, Brian and Maureen Chandley decided to establish a fund with the Foundation, where Brian has volunteered for more than a decade. A board member since 2007, Brian also for six years chaired the Foundation’s Distribution Committee, a group of community leaders who review grant proposals and recommend grantees.

“Maureen and I enjoy contributing to charities we care about as volunteers and donors,” says Brian. “At the same time, we wanted to bring a strategic focus to our charitable investments."

The couple created a discretionary fund, which lets the Foundation determine the best use of its grants.

“This citizen-run grantmaking process is unbiased and effective, with impact that is second to none,” says Brian. “Community grants provide both new and proven nonprofits with sustainable, reliable support.”
