Services to Nonprofit Organizations

Services to Nonprofit OrganizationsNonprofit organizations provide vital services of all kinds to the people of our region. As a community foundation, we nurture a robust nonprofit sector by investing in new and existing programs that meet the needs of our towns and cities.

The Foundation is a major grantmaker. But our services go beyond grantmaking.

Fostering Relationships

We foster our region’s nonprofit organizations by developing a strong network of collaborative relationships. We bring together nonprofit organizations with each other as well as potential donors. And we encourage productive partnerships that cross our region’s private and public sectors to identify and address our community’s current and emerging challenges.

Creating an Agency Fund at the Foundation

We manage the endowments of more than 45 nonprofit agencies in our region, enabling these organizations to focus on serving constituents while they build capital for current and future needs through agency funds with the Foundation.

Eligibility and Limitations

Grants are made only to 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations serving the greater Worcester region (cities and towns of Worcester County). We prefer to fund organizations that are based in the region; outside organizations must be able to demonstrate the significant role of local partners, advisors, and/or planning steps that garnered local understanding and support. Non-incorporated organizations may apply through an established nonprofit that agrees to provide fiscal oversight (a fiscal agent).

All grantees must be able to demonstrate sound planning and fiscal stewardship, have a legitimate and effective governing board, and agree to the foundation’s reporting requirements.

Public agencies, municipal departments, and houses of worship are not typically eligible to receive discretionary grants

Applying for a Grant

Before applying, we would like to hear from you in advance of your proposal, especially if you have never applied to us before or if there is something new to discuss with us. This conversation will allow you to learn more about us and how we operate, and for us to learn about your organization. Call (508) 755-0980 and ask to speak with a program officer.
