About the Hockey Funds

The John Carter “High Five” Youth Hockey Fund

This fund was created in 1996 by former Boston Bruin and Ice Cat John Carter and his friends. They recognized that many interested and talented youth are prevented from participating in ice hockey due to financial constraints. Scholarships are awarded to players on District 7 (Worcester County) teams.

The Christopher J. Paskell Memorial Fund

Christopher Paskell was only twelve when he died in an accident in 2003. His family and friends created this fund to honor his life and his enjoyment of hockey.  Scholarships are awarded to players on District 7 (Worcester County) teams, with preference to residents of Grafton, Holden, Northbridge, Paxton, Princeton, Rutland, Sutton and West Boylston.

Assistance for Youth Hockey Members

These Funds provide financial assistance to low-income youth, ages 5 to 17, to participate in team hockey in District 7 in Central Massachusetts. Families may request up to $200 per youth to assist with the costs of league fees, hockey instruction and equipment. Financial need will be determined by Greater Worcester Community Foundation based on applications received.

Awards are paid directly to the player's youth hockey association and are restricted for the selected applicants. The application process and awards are strictly confidential.
