ABOUT THE FUND

In 1921, members of the Swedish community in Worcester established Fairlawn Hospital as a way to serve the growing health needs of the area.

In 1991, after seventy years of dedicated service to all Worcester residents, the Hospital Board of Trustees, recognizing changes taking place in the delivery of health care but still committed to community service, transferred ownership of the hospital to a for-profit rehabilitation corporation. The proceeds of this transaction were used to establish the Fairlawn Foundation, a charitable fund administered by Greater Worcester Community Foundation.

The Fairlawn Foundation is dedicated to supporting excellence and innovation in healthcare delivery, education and research in the Worcester area. Approximately $350,000 is awarded annually.
