Starting a Scholarship Fund | Resources
Greater Worcester Community Foundation has over 90 scholarship funds made possible through many individuals and organizations, and each with a focused purpose in making awards. When you establish a scholarship fund, you may specify selection criteria that are important to you.
Selection criteria
To search for just the "right student", consider the following criteria:
Current scholarship awards range from $250 to more than $5,000. It is possible to designate a specific amount to be awarded each year or to base an award on the Foundation's spending policy. Based on the high cost of education today, we encourage a minimum scholarship of $1,000 whenever possible.
Funds with larger balances have the option to distribute more than one scholarship in a given year, or to provide a higher award.
Selection process
The Greater Worcester Community Foundation board appoints all members of selection committees and approves the process through which all scholarships are selected. The Foundation will work with you to determine the best selection process for the scholarship.
Our services
We make it simple for you by taking care of the entire process from start to finish. Through our outreach effort, applications are made available to all public and private high schools in the Greater Worcester area, as well as through local libraries, nonprofit organizations, and online.
Our staff screens all applications, coordinates and schedules dozens of community volunteers who serve on a variety of selection committees. We also take care of all applicant correspondence and notification, including tracking scholarship recipients and distribution of awards.
