Worcester, MA -- The Auburn Foundation, an endowed fund of Greater Worcester Community Foundation, distributed $16,028 to five nonprofit organizations to improve the quality of life for Auburn residents, create a more vibrant community and encourage cooperative action among its citizens.
Auburn Youth & Family Services received $4,500 for Summer Fun and Adventure, a 6-week day program for children ages 5-14. The grant will support personnel, supplies and other costs associated with the program.
Auburn District Nursing Association provides beneficial community service to residents with diabetes. The $4,500 grant will purchase 100 foot care kits for distribution through the senior center and directly to patients.
First grade students and teachers from the Bryn Mawr and Mary Stone elementary schools will enjoy a one-day field trip to the EcoTarium through a $3,750 grant.
An award of $1,600 was presented to Audio Journal for its Voices of Light program, an initiative to engage middle school students in the service of local residents who are blind or unable to access visual information.
The Town of Auburn Fire Department received $1,678 to outfit 10 fire personnel with dress uniform accessories, flags and equipment for the purpose of conducting funerals and marching in parades.
The Auburn Foundation is a permanent charitable resource created in 2002 by lifelong residents Arthur M. Pappas, M.D. and Martha R. Pappas. A volunteer advisory committee comprised Auburn citizens will review grant proposals and recommend awards. Past grants have supported youth and senior programs, health and human services, and cultural events.
