$125,000 Available from GLBT Partnership Fund

Worcester, MA -- Greater Worcester Community Foundation announced that nonprofits may now apply for grants from the GLBT Partnership Fund. The purpose of the Fund is to improve the physical, mental, social and emotional health and wellbeing of the whole community by fostering a safe and just environment for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people who live or work in the Greater Worcester region.

The Fund will distribute approximately $125,000 this year to address all areas of community interest such as arts, education, community development, environment, health, and human services. Grants will range from $2,500 to $25,000.

An information session for prospective grantees will be held at the Foundation offices on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. The meeting will include an overview of the new grant guidelines and standardized forms for this competitive grant process, as well as provide an opportunity for organizations to discuss their projects and network for maximum impact. Attendance at the session is not required to apply.

Applications to the GLBT Partnership Fund are due by 5:00 pm on Monday, November 17, 2008 to Greater Worcester Community Foundation, 370 Main Street, Suite 650, Worcester, MA 01608. Application forms and guidelines are available at www.greaterworcester.org.

This will be the first round of grant making from the fund, which was established through a 2:1 challenge grant from Funders for Lesbian and Gay Issues and the generosity of local donors. To date, the Foundation has raised 75% toward its goal of $200,000. Approximately $90,000 has been secured from foundations, with the remainder coming from individual gifts ranging from $25 to $10,000.

To attend the information session or to find out more, please call the Foundation at (508) 755-0980.
