Worcester, MA - Greater Worcester Community Foundation announced 2007 year-end results at its 33rd Annual Meeting on May 13, 2008 at Mechanics Hall. Total assets grew by more than $10 million to $134,454,960. Gifts to the Foundation totalled $5.7 million, and, a $4.7 million was distributed in grants, including $499,937 in scholarships, which suppported 352 area nonprofit organizations and 340 college students.
"The Foundation's personal, face-to-face interchange connects service providers with new opportunities for growth and support and keeps donors close to the good work -- and needs -- of nonprofits serving Worcester County," said Ann T. Lisi, executive director. "By commingling energies as well as funds, we create common good."
Key accomplishments include launching of DonorCentral, an online tool that enables donors to securely access fund information; conducting 13 programs through the Nonprofit Support Center for 274 participants from 107 nonprofits; and recruitment of 473 community volunteers who served on development, grant-making and scholarship review committees.
The Foundation also elected 2008 officers at the meeting: Peter H. Levine, MD, President, R. Joseph Salois, Vice President, Thomas J. Bartholomew, Treasurer, Ellen S. Dunlap, Clerk, Warner S. Fletcher, Officer at-large and Mary C. Ritter, Officer at-large.
Ross K. Dik, who completed his 3-year term as Foundation President, was honored by board members through contributions to the Youth for Community Improvement (YCI) Endowment Fund which engages high school students from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds in grant making and leadership development.
Greater Worcester Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is a grant maker, a resource for philanthropy and a community builder. It was founded in 1975 by local citizens who envisioned a coordinated endowment as a means to build a vibrant community and to respond to changing conditions.
In 33 years, the Foundation has awarded more than $60 million to cultural, service and civic organizations and has built a charitable endowment exceeding $134 million in 403 funds.
