Worcester, MA - Greater Worcester Community Foundation awarded a record $540,340 in scholarships to for the 2008-2009 academic year. More than 600 applications were received from students from all parts of Worcester County. Foundation staff recruited 158 community volunteers who formed selection committees to make the awards based on specific criteria, such as town of residence, high school attended, planned field of study, financial need and academic achievement.
The Foundation currently administers over 100 scholarship funds established by local donors. Most are for graduating high school seniors in the region, but others benefit home-schooled and GED students, as well as adults who are resuming their education.
