GLBT Partnership Fund Distributes $125,000 in first granting cycle

Worcester, MA -- Greater Worcester Community Foundation has approved $125,000 from its GLBT Partnership Fund to foster a safe and open community for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. The eight funded projects will: reduce stigma for gays and lesbians over age 60; provide housing services to GLBT and questioning youth, especially youth of color; train community members on the needs of transgender individuals; offer legal services to GLBT refugees; bring music to the city; host a conference for high school students; train health care providers; and create a coalition in northern Worcester County. This is the first of two years of grant-making from the fund, which was established through a challenge grant from Funders for Lesbian & Gay Issues secured by Greater Worcester Community Foundation and gifts from local individuals, businesses, and foundations. The GLBT Partnership Fund is the only community fund for GLBT issues in the Central Massachusetts area, and one of forty such funds within an American community foundation.
