NSC Programs

Building a stronger nonprofit sector

The Nonprofit Support Center was founded in 1991
as the Coalition for Not-for-Profit Management
Assistance. Its three founding agencies — the United Way of Central Massachusetts, the Colleges of Worcester Consortium, and Greater Worcester Community Foundation — saw the need for a regional organization that could help nonprofit leaders manage their limited resources more effectively and creatively. The coalition provided workshops, seminars, and management support.

In 1998, reflecting the increasing number and expanding scope of its services, the organization changed its name to the Nonprofit Support Center. It is now a project of Greater Worcester Community Foundation and is guided by an advisory committee of executive directors, funders, and consultants.

Our Purpose

The Nonprofit Support Center exists to stimulate the development of a capable, forward-thinking, and collaborative nonprofit sector in Worcester County. Its programs and services help organizations think strategically, govern effectively, and work cooperatively with community partners.

Services

A variety of services are available to senior managers and governing board members of Central Massachusetts nonprofit organizations:

Seminars, Workshops, and Peer Learning Opportunities
Programs on a wide range of strategic management and governance issues.
Organizational Assessment
Tools and guidance to help nonprofit groups assess their operations.
Short-term Consultation
Time-limited intervention on management and governance concerns.
Technical Assistance Grants
Financial Support for projects that address critical organizational challenges.
Resources and Referral
Information on nonprofit trends, consultants and effective practices. Manuals, books, and computer disks on a wide range of topics.
