Youth for Community Improvement

About YCI | Grant Guidelines | Progress Report | Recent Grants

 

BACKGROUND

 

For the last ten years, Youth for Community Improvement has engaged high school sophomores, juniors and seniors from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds in grant making and leadership development. Since YCI began in 1999, 94 teen leaders have awarded over $165,000 to 50 Worcester County nonprofits and have created an endowment at Greater Worcester Community Foundation worth over $15,000.

 

YCI PARTICIPATION CRITERIA

• Sophomores, juniors and seniors in public and private high schools throughout Worcester County
• Ages 15-18
• Minimum C+ average
• Submit completed YCI online application by posted deadline
• Have a successful face-to-face interview
• Attend, actively participate in, and be on time to all YCI meetings (mid-December - early April), which usually take place in the Foundation offices
• Dress in business casual attire (no jeans or sneakers, with exception of the retreat)
• Complete Community Service project by the final YCI meeting
• Abide by Social Contract, as designed and approved by YCI members
• Two-year maximum YCI service
• Seniors wanting to be involved with YCI after completing 2 years of outstanding service can apply for an alumni advisor position with the Committee
