Brief History
The communities of greater Worcester have long been noted for the generosity of their citizens, both in philanthropy and community service. To ensure the constancy of this legacy, a group of citizens founded Greater Worcester Community Foundation in 1975 to be a permanent resource for changing needs. They formed a public charitable corporation with a mission to increase philanthropy and build healthy and vibrant communities throughout Central Massachusetts. Greater Worcester Community Foundation achieves its mission in four primary ways:
By focusing on the entire community rather than on any specific issue, the community foundation is able to address matters of greatest importance to the people of this region. Since 1975 Greater Worcester Community Foundation has built a permanent, flexible endowment and has distributed grants and awards totaling more than $45 million to a broad range of organizations and people throughout the region.
